Listed are the service music assignments for the 2016–2017 season at All Saints Church, Pasadena. You’ll also find the choral repertoire for Canterbury Choir and Coventry Choir through June 25.

This is a particularly exciting season, as we welcome our new rector, Mike Kinman. As rector-elect, Mike preaches on Homecoming Sunday, September 18, and officially joins the staff on November 1.

New repertoire for the adult choirs — One of the best aspects of American Guild of Organists conventions are publishers’ exhibits, and I am delighted that composers are still writing well-crafted, beautiful music suitable for singing in liturgy. So, we are delving into some “new to us” repertoire, with more to come in Lent and spring.

Kelci Hahn starts as Coventry’s soprano section leader/soloist on Sunday, September 18.

Mike Kinman’s first Sunday as rector is All Saints Sunday, November 6, our parish feast day. This year, our Requiem mass is celebrated with the sublime music of Maurice Duruflé with Coventry Choir and chamber orchestra.

On November 13, we premiere Bruce Babcock’s latest anthem, Lord, It Is Night.

Advent and Christmas — To cap the season of Advent, I’m delighted that Canterbury Choir leads a beautiful evensong on Sunday, December 18, singing selections from Handel’s Messiah with instrumental ensemble. Christmas Eve is glorious with masses by Charpentier and Schubert, sung by our choirs with chamber orchestra.

Bill Cunliffe’s Oremos Todos premieres at Mike Kinman’s induction service on Monday, February 27.

For Lent, Coventry sings Bach’s stunning Cantata 106 for our Lenten Evensong on Sunday, March 26.

Celebrating James Walker’s 34-year tenure at All Saints includes three events. Join us for the Spring Concert (June 4), and my final Sundays with Canterbury Choir (June 18) and Coventry Choir (June 25).

And every Sunday morning, along with evening Contemplative Eucharists, Advent Lessons and Carols, Evensongs and Jazz Vespers, a feast of music that challenges the mind and moves the heart.

Original post on August, 22, 2016: lists repertoire through Sunday, February 26.
Update on January 29, 2017: lists repertoire through Easter Sunday, April 16.
Update on March 30, 2017: lists repertoire through Sunday, June 25.
Update on April 18, 2017: revised repertoire for Sundays, May 14 & 21; Kyle Champion plays on Sunday, June 11.
