The idea of a Sunday morning liturgy with no words spoken was an outgrowth of an idea that a parishioner had when Szymon Grab was first hired and gave a mini-recital for a group of major donors. The parishioner suggested to Ed Bacon that we could do with a lot less speaking at our services and have more music.

Well, it was a grand experiment. Lent III’s Gospel of Jesus turning over the tables in the temple proved to be the perfect Sunday to schedule this. Kodaly’s Jesus and the Traders is the telling of that Gospel story.

There was much silence, some instrumental music, more choral music than usual, and the eucharistic was chanted. It was very successful and led to further experimentation.
